Version control for your Microsoft Office Suite

One place to version, comment, compare, and merge Microsoft Office files, without file name and coordination chaos.

Less time finding files. More time deciding.

  1. 01

    Find the right version

Pull any saved version directly from the MergeCom add-in without hunting through folders or filenames.

  2. 02

    See exactly what changed

Compare versions side by side, review changes, and keep comments tied to the work being reviewed.

  3. 03

    Merge into one final file

Bring approved changes together without manually copying edits between versions.

See the difference. Understand the change.

Compare versions visually and inspect the exact text, formatting, charts, tables, and objects that changed, then approve or disapprove individual changes directly from the comparison pane.

Why document-heavy teams choose MergeCom

  1. 01

    Exact versions, without filename chaos

Every saved version is preserved exactly as it was saved, so you can always return to the precise file that was sent, reviewed, or approved.

  2. 02

Move between versions without leaving Office

Push new versions and pull any saved version directly from the MergeCom add-in in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

  3. 03

    Feedback stays with the work

Keep comments and replies anchored to the slide, page, or cell they refer to, so review context doesn’t get lost across email, chat, or separate files.

  4. 04

One master version, with room to branch

Keep a clear master file while reviewers work in separate branches, then merge approved changes back without overwriting each other’s work.

  5. 05

    Restore without rewriting history

Bring an earlier file forward as a new version while preserving the full record.

Push. Branch.
Compare. Approve. Merge.

Move work from a new version to the master while preserving every version, branch, and decision along the way.

  1. 01

    Push

Save a new version directly from Word, Excel, or PowerPoint into MergeCom.

  2. 02

    Branch

Create a separate working branch from any version without changing the master.

  3. 03

    Compare

Compare a branch against the master or another version to see exactly what changed.

  4. 04

    Approve

Review changes individually, discuss them in context, and approve or reject what moves forward.

  5. 05

    Merge

Bring approved changes back into the master as a new version while preserving the history behind them.

Office files are not interchangeable.

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are built differently, so MergeCom compares each one differently. See the changes that matter in the context of the file you’re actually working in.

Text, formatting, styles, tables, sections, headers, footnotes, comments, and embedded objects.

Built for work that changes hands.

Where versions multiply, feedback accumulates, and one file still has to become the final version.

  1. 01

    Iterative review

Presentations, models, reports, drafts, and other files that move through repeated rounds of edits.

    Version history, comparison, and review
  2. 02

    Parallel work

When multiple people need to make changes without overwriting the master or each other.

Branches, individual changes, and controlled merging
  3. 03

    Approval-driven work

When wording, numbers, formatting, or other changes need to be reviewed and explicitly accepted before moving forward.

    Comments, approvals, and decision history
  4. 04

    Recurring work

Files that are updated again and again while previous versions still need to remain accessible.

Version history, restoration, and a clear master

Keep working in Office.

MergeCom adds version control around the files and applications your team already uses, rather than asking you to replace them.

  • Work in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Keep creating and editing files in the Microsoft Office applications your team already knows.

  • Keep your original file formats

Your .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx files stay Office files, not proprietary MergeCom documents.

  • Push and pull from the add-in

Save a new version or open an earlier one without leaving the Office application you are working in.

  • Review together on the web

Compare versions, discuss changes, and approve or reject edits from a shared workspace.

  • Branch without touching the master

Create separate working versions while keeping the master file intact until changes are ready.

  • Bring approved work back to master

Merge the changes you want into the master and preserve the versions and decisions that came before it.

Questions

What teams ask before they start.

Who is MergeCom for?

MergeCom is for teams that repeatedly create, review, and revise Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. It is especially useful when multiple versions, reviewers, or rounds of approval make it difficult to know what changed and which file should move forward.

Do I need to change how I work to use MergeCom?

Not much. Keep working in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, use the MergeCom add-in to push and pull versions, and use the web workspace when you need to compare, review, approve, or merge changes.

How does version control work in MergeCom?

Each time you push a file, MergeCom saves it as a new version rather than overwriting what came before. You can return to earlier versions, branch from them, compare changes, and keep a complete history as the file evolves.

What are branches and the master version?

The master is the version your team is currently working toward. Branches let people work separately without changing that master, then bring approved changes back when they are ready.

How does MergeCom compare Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files?

MergeCom compares each Office application according to its own structure. That means tracking things like text and formatting in Word, formulas and cells in Excel, and slides and objects in PowerPoint rather than treating every file as the same kind of document.

Can I approve or reject individual changes?

Yes. Changes can be reviewed individually in the comparison pane so you can decide what should move forward before approved work is merged back into the master.

How are comments and feedback handled?

Comments and replies stay tied to the page, slide, or cell they refer to, so the discussion remains with the part of the file being reviewed instead of getting separated across email or chat.

Can I restore an earlier version?

Yes. An earlier file can be brought forward as a new version without deleting or rewriting any of the history that came after it.

Who can access a workspace or project?

Access can be controlled by workspace and project, so teams can determine who is able to view, edit, review, or administer the files they are working on.

How does MergeCom protect my files?

MergeCom is designed to keep files, versions, and access controlled throughout the review process. More detail on storage, permissions, deployment, and security controls is available on our Security & Trust page.

Does MergeCom replace Microsoft Office?

No. MergeCom sits around Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as the versioning, comparison, review, and approval layer. You continue creating and editing files in the Office applications themselves.

What happens after changes are approved?

Approved changes can be merged back into the master as a new version, while the branches, earlier versions, and review history remain preserved.
